I’ve been pretty lucky to visit Erin McKenna’s Bakery at both Disney Springs and downtown Los Angeles. While I haven’t visited their NYC location, two out of three isn’t bad! And why would I be so excited to eat at a bakery across the country – easy – vegan and gluten-free donuts. And cake. AND LEMON TEACAKE. And cupcakes. And cinnamon rolls. And cookies. And cookie sandwiches. AND LEMON TEACAKE. And did I mention the donuts and the teacake?
These bakeries are 100% gluten-free and vegan (meaning egg-free dairy-free fish and shellfish free – as they are animal products as well as top allergens). They’re also free from soy, and they don’t bake with most tree nuts and peanuts, but they use Bob’s Red Mills flours processed on equipment with hazelnut, almond, and soy.
You can find details about the baked goods on their ingredient page.
I visited Erin McKenna’s Bakery (formerly named BabyCakes) twice during my time in Orlando and I wish I could have gone even more. I also wish that their lemon teacake could be delivered to my house every day, but wishful thinking…
Oh wait, I can order it online! I will now take bets on when I cave and order it – even though it’s 120 degrees outside and I’m very concerned about it staying fresh on route from LA to AZ.
I can’t say no to a gluten-free dairy-free egg-free cinnamon roll. Who could say no to that. I really wish I would have taken one of these on my carry-on home.
I love that every day they have different options for cupcakes and cookies and donuts. They also offer vegan gluten-free frozen yogurt at the LA and Orlando locations. Each time I’ve visited those locations, I was always too stuffed from eating teacake to try the frozen yogurt!
The donuts are not to be missed. Yes, they are baked donuts, not fried, so they are more like shaped cupcakes than “true” donuts. However, they are delicious, especially the coffee crunch donuts – my favorite. If you’re expecting fluffy, raised donuts with yeast and deep-fried, these are not for you. However, I think they’re awesome and a must-try, at least once.
If you visit Erin McKenna’s at Disney Springs in Orlando, near Walt Disney World, park in the Lime Garage. From there it’s an easy walk to Erin McKenna’s and other great gluten-free friendly restaurants at Disney Springs. I can’t wait to go back next year in June 2018 for the
Gluten Intolerance Group Teen Summit and Family Retreat!
I had the coconut cookie type thing, it was shaped like a flower, and dipped in chocolate, and I LOVED it. I’m lactose intolerant, and I have a peanut and tree nut allergy, and I had no issues, and loved my experience. Even my parent’s who don’t have any allergies loved it.
Do you get involved with cakes. Looks like it might be a special order. My daughter who if GF would like a small cutter cake, 6-8 in dia. For the reception. Please let me know if this is something we can discuss
