Gluten Free Travel: Wild Grape Bistro, Salt Lake City

For a few years now I’ve been wanting to try out Wild Grape Bistro. Probably because the whole outside of their building is covered in a real grape vine. And because I love wine. So after a few years and a few visits to SLC, I finally got there.

It’s located sort of downtown, SLC. I love that they support local, sustainable, and organic. This place is right up my alley. It looks really fancy but the prices are really reasonable for a nice place like this.

Their menu notes gluten-free dishes by a “Gf.” They state, “Gf = gluten friendly dish, please inform your server so we can take extra precautions to ensure gluten free.” Our waiter was fairly informed about what was gluten-free, but was a little confused about why I asked where the fries were fried in (even though they didn’t have a Gf I wanted to know).

I got the Summer Salad, because it looked so delicious and it looked like they couldn’t screw it up and put gluten in it. The salad was $14, but that included the shrimp. I thought the wine was also very affordable – a glass of tempranillo for $6.50.

The Summer Salad was amazing! And it’s beautiful.

I love this photo. Non-GFBF caught me hanging out in the vines.

The boyfriend had a turkey brie sandwich, wrapping the sandwich in lettuce instead of bread. Not necessarily the best GF option, but better than nothing. The fruit cup on the side was excellent.

I was really happy with our lunch, and I can’t wait to try the dinner there next time I go back. Their Summer dinner menu looks awesome with a lot of good gluten-friendly options. I would like to talk to the chef next time I’m there about how much cross-contamination is in the kitchen, why he decided to put GF on his menu, etc. Can’t wait to go back!

I’ll give it a solid 4. I’d rate it a 4.5 if I was assured they were careful in the kitchen. I loved what I ordered and thought the wine was affordable. I bet if I had dinner there, it’d be ranked higher too – so many good-looking options!

Your summer salad looks really yummy but pretty small for $14. Sounds perfect with a glass of vino though 🙂
