A lot of companies contact me with products that I don’t have available in Arizona. I’m really thankful that they give me the opportunity to try things that I haven’t found over the past few years. But this time, I’m very thankful, because I found a product that I am in love with.
Wholesome Chow reached out to me about sampling their product – so they sent me two baking mixes and an icing kit to try out. WholesomeChow’s Organic Gluten Free & Vegan Baking Mixes are all CSA Certified Gluten Free under 5ppm. Check out their website, www.wholesomechow.com. They are currently offered in over 500 retail locations throughout the US (although I can’t find any by me – apparently they’re at every other Whole Foods BUT mine).
Today I’m doing a review of the Organic Gluten Free & Vegan Vanilla Cake Mix and the Organic Gluten Free & Vegan Vanilla Frosting Mix.
They also offer an All-Purpose Baking Mix and an Lavender cake mix – insert drool marks here. PS be sure to keep following this blog for a great giveaway from Wholesome Chow later!
So the cool thing about Wholesome Chow is at their organic, gluten-free, and GMO-free, but they are certified by: USDA Organic, CCOF, Non-GMO Project, Celiac Sprue Association, Earth Kosher and Vegan Verified.
That’s a lot of accolades!
Since they’re vegan, I didn’t have to buy any eggs or milk. All I needed was oil, apple cider vinegar and non-dairy milk and non-dairy butter (for the icing). They were SO easy to make too – since there were so little ingredients to mix together.
Since we got a vanilla mix, we decided to experiment a little, so we added in coconut flavoring and organic coconut flakes to half of the mix. It was such a good idea too, because the coconut really enhanced the vanilla flavor and came up with the best mix.
They came out of the oven so moist and so delicious. I still can’t believe that they’re vegan. And I can’t believe that they’re gluten free. I…love…these…cupcakes.
So I made the mistake of putting on the icing immediately after they came out of the oven. Whoops – the icing was all melty and gooey. After I waited the proper time and spread it on the cupcakes when they were cool, it worked out way better (reading the instructions usually helps).
I made a few extras and brought some to work. They were so amazing. They tasted great with coffee – doesn’t everything taste better with coffee? I gave this to my coworker who doesn’t eat gluten-free and he loved them. Seriously.

If I could give this more than a 5 out of 5 I would. I typically don’t like vegan mixes (I mean, I add eggs to everything), but this was TO DIE FOR.
Do yourself a favor and buy this mix. Buy all their mixes. I’m in love with Wholesome Chow! And one of the best parts of this? They retail online for only $5.99-$6.99 a bag! I thought they’d be like $7.99 a bag. Woohoo!
Obviously 5 out of 5.

Can’t wait to try these mixes… I have a gluten, egg, and milk allergy. It is really hard to find baking mixes that fits with all of my allergies and still tastes yummy!
I’m going to look at not-your-Whole Foods! With my no-list, I’m usually frustrated by the ingredients in vegan products (stop it with the soy!) but these look like a great treat. Yummo. 🙂
Awesome review!! Thanks so much for posting about our small company! We are so happy you enjoy our products. Stay tuned for more products like these coming to a store near you! 🙂
