Review: Healthy Surprise Gluten Free Vegan Subscription Box

I’m sure you’re looking at this review and saying – another gluten-free review box? We’ve already seen Tasterie and Gfreely on here – why more? And I say, “WHY NOT MORE?!?” We should be so very very excited about the idea of subscription boxes for people like us – especially people who can’t get to a Whole Foods every day like I do (yes, I’m a Whole Foods addict, I’ll fully admit that). I could not be happier to tell you about another gluten-free box that is in the market – Healthy Surprise. What’s the surprise? It’s also vegan. This box is GREAT.

There are three options that depends on how many people you are trying to feed. There’s the starter kit – the one I got, and it feeds about 2 people. It’s $33 a month and that’s for 16-20 servings of goodies. It requires $6.99 shipping. The other two are free to ship, but are significantly more expensive. The Healthy box is $66 a month and feeds 2-6 people and has 32-40 servings. The biggest box, the large, is $99 a month and feeds 3-9 people with 50-60 servings of product. They say that the bigger box is ideal for offices. Let me tell you, if my office had a box of gluten-free vegan treats, it’d certainly increase my workplace productivity!

What’s nice is that there are new snacks every month. It’s also guaranteed. And there’s no commitment, you can stop whenever you want. They avoid GMO foods and soy – HELL YEAH! How can you not love this company?

There were a lot of things in the box that I had never tried before, something I really like about the box. Some were a little strange – like some curried peanuts, and some were not that great – like the shaman blessed (yes, you read that right) vegan bar. Others were some favorites of mine, like Home Free Treats and Hail Merry pecans. Non-GFBF found the chocolate carmel corn and Larabar to be his favorite. I fell in love with the Bare Fruit cinnamon dehydrated apples and the strawberry and almond butter raw coconut treats. It was a pretty cool box, especially because it’s also vegan (which is hard to find yummy vegan and GF treats). Although $33 is a lot, I also realized that this box came with a lot of raw items, which are notoriously expensive. I think it’s definitely worth it for the quality of items you are receiving in the box.

I would definitely recommend the Healthy Surprise box. I think it’s a great idea, especially for a vegan, gluten-free person that you might not know what to get them for Christmas (they’re so hard to buy for!). I can’t give it a 5 because some of the stuff was too funky for me, but who knows what the next box would look like. I’m sure it will be a treat (or should I say Healthy Surprise) regardless!

I’m trying to decide on a GF box subscription. Of the Gfreely, Tasterie, and Healthy Surprise, which would you recommend as being the best value? You gave Tasterie a 5 rating, right?

I like them all! But keep in mind that only Tasterie (that I know of) does dairy-free and soy-free boxes too. HOnestly, they each change every month, so it’s hard to give a recommendation. I really like all three – but I’d say it’s between GFreely and Tasterie.

      Lacey,
Did you ever try one? If you would like to try Gfreely’s box, you can have $5 off your first box with code: GF5ME
