Review and Giveaway: Udi’s Gluten Free New Product Alert

As soon as you go gluten-free, I’m pretty sure the first brand you are introduced to is Udi’s. I know it was for me. They are a mega staple in their community – and why wouldn’t they be? They have terrific products, and are always coming out with something new. Sure, they’re not perfect. In fact, they’ve gotten a lot of flack for their lack of quality control in their bread, but they’re addressing that and hoping to obtain 100% quality control on their loaves. Yes, they are smaller sized pieces of bread, but sometimes we can’t have it all as a celiac! I’m happy that they are readily available in almost any store I go to, and that they have numerous varieties of bread that are dairy free, egg free, and soy free. They also make great pizza crusts – and although I don’t love their pre-made pizzas – their crust give us opportunity to make quick pizza again. I dig that they are non-GMO and are hoping to get verified in that process soon. I just love Udi’s.

I recently had an opportunity to taste some new items shipped to me from Udi’s (thanks Udi’s team) and wanted to share about them before we get to their giveaway. Images are courtesy of Udi’s website, as I’ve been instagramming my photos, but rarely get a good shot before the product is all gone!

Let’s start out with my favorites – bagels! These bad boys toast up nicely, and aren’t gooey in the middle (like many bagels I’ve toasted from mom and pop GF places around the GF-verse. They also kinda taste like “real” bagels – which is a quality I can admire. The only bummout is that they have egg- a common allergen and also want makes these things toast up so well. It’s not easy for me to avoid eggs, especially when you get a shipment of these at your doorstep. I love bagels with things on it or in it – especially an everything bagel (I still remember what those taste like from Einstein’s!). I dig that this bagel has dried cranberries, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and millet and flax inside. This makes the bagel pack a protein crunch, and give it some texture. I dig it, and non-GFBF LOVED these!

Up next is what I was most excited for – the everything bagel! What makes this bagel different is that everything is INSIDE, like the same suggests, instead of on the outside like most bagels. Why is this great? Well, if you’ve ever eaten an everything bagel you know that everything lands pretty much anywhere but in your mouth, and your desk is littered with seeds and flecks of garlic. Well, this fixes that problem! I really liked this, and now that I can’t find them yet in my stores, I’m going to order them online. I would have LIKED to see MORE everything flavor. I’m used to a ton of salt and garlic punch when I eat a normal everything bagel, and this is definitely subdued – but you still get that flavor. Again, wish it didn’t have egg, but I’d probably complain about the texture if it didn’t.

The word “muffin” is used pretty lightly in their new Double Vanilla muffins because this is pretty much like eating a cake! For over 250 calories a muffin, it’s pretty much like eating cake too. This compares to the uber rich muffins you’d get at like Dunkin’ Donuts (my favorite old haunt). I’m not much for a super sweet heavy muffin in the morning, but there’s no denying that this was gooooooood. It’s just not for me and my morning tastes.

With the Harvest Crunch muffin, Udi’s is doing it again with all the great seeds and flavors locked inside their breakfast food. There’s cranberries, sweet potato, pumpkin seeds, and orange zest in these. They are really tasty. I took them on my flights so I could have a filling snack on-the-go. They’ve got a great taste that isn’t overwhelmingly sweet, and enough texture to keep it interesting (something different than the typical muffins out there). I do wish these were a little less caloric, maybe 200 a muffin – that way I could justify this way more as my morning snack.

So there are my thoughts on some of Udi’s newer products to hit the market. I’m hoping you get a chance to try them and share your thoughts on them here!

As for the giveaway, we can’t ship frozen muffins, but Udi’s is giving three lucky winners (in the big prize pack drawing) a fabric Udi’s coupon holder, an Udi’s notebook and pen, and valuable Udi’s coupons! Enter using the Rafflecopter below!

Yes, BUT if you would win, you would have to pay for the shipping on top of what I pay for US shipping. It would depend on your province what shipping would come out to be – but anything over $13 would have to be covered.

      Thanks!

Udi’s was one of the first gluten free products I tried and is now the only brand I use for bread, rolls and granola. I’m excited to try their wraps once I can find them in stores!

It has been, and continues to be, extremely hard for me and my family to make the switch to GF. My son has celiac and my hubby is diabetic. We are trying very hard to make the switch. The cost is the biggest opsticle. With hubby being out of work for a year, we have to buy what we can afford, and not always what’s best. It breaks my heart. Thanks for all your helpful info and encouragement. It has been a blessing.

Love the bagels! I wish the bread was as super… Haven’t found a GF bread that my kids like yet so am now making my own with a GF bread mix and cuisinart bread maker.

  30. I’ve got to try those bagels!

I find these bagels really good to use for a sandwich, I can’t eat a whole one just as a bagel. I just recently tried their hot dog buns and really like those! After three and a half years I had a “normal” hot dog … not on a plate plain!

I am looking forward to the everything inside bagels. Coming from NY I am a bagel girl and these just sound mmmmm!!!
