I’m not a hippy. I don’t identify with crunchy granola moms. I’ve never been at a non-GMO protest and I probably never will. I have resisted switching to non-toxic deodorant because I sweat like a marathon runner when I’m emotional. But I am pro-organic anything, pro-eco-friendly products, and I’ve always tried to put good things into my body and surround myself with brands that do the same. So when I heard of ShiftCon, I put aside any connotations that I might have, and I embraced the conference and the brands for what they were and what they are trying to do – deliver the best quality product to consumers. Deliver organic, non-GMO, wholesome ingredients that are free of toxins and harmful materials (and therefore often free of gluten). I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t feel like a hippy after ShiftCon, I felt like a mindful consumer that was putting my money towards brands that had a mission – that wanted to make shifts happen.

Ladies. I know we don’t talk a lot about our lady bits. Ugh, I know that just made some of your cringe. But we’ve got to think about our sensitive mucus membranes. And you should be using something clean and gentle for your vulvar area. Yep, I’m sure you just winced at that. But I’m serious, and I’m so proud to now know Healthy HooHoo! Put good stuff on your body and it will thank you.

BOIRON

I used to think that Boiron was for weirdos that only shop at Whole Foods and used natural deodorant. Well, I guess I’m one of them now because I’ve fallen in love with these little blue bottles.

HONEST TEA

While I never used their product before I won a big giveaway with The Healthy Apple,  I have grown to love the Half and Half Honest Tea! I mix it with soda water and I have a sweet but refreshing drink!

GLUTEN-FREE OLD FRIENDS

It was great to see brands like Bakery on Main, Enjoy Life Foods, Simple Squares and Nature’s Path come up in our goodie bags. I’m so pleased to see brands that regularly exhibit at the gluten-free shows are also organic and/or non-GMO.

EARTH MAMA ANGEL BABY

I was assured that Earth Mama Angel Baby products are not just for babies. And I didn’t even have to hang out with babies there in order to get their swag (pretty great deal in my opinion). This stuff is good for sensitive adult skin too! I’m pretty sure I also drank a gallon of their tea while I was there.

PRIMAL PIT PASTE

Detox your pits, ladies. Sweating is a normal function and we should be proud if at least one thing on our body is still normal. This organic mixture is made of simple ingredients that are NOT toxic – unlike any other deodorant or antiperspirant that has commercials on TV. Primal Pit Paste has a bevy of great scents including Jacked Up Jasmine and Orange Creamsicle. I wear this every day now.

EXPLORE ASIAN

I’m happy that the rest of ShiftCon got to go home with a product that is a mover and a shaker in the gluten-free community. This Explore Asian black bean spaghetti is a great alternative, and it’s bagged (unlike spaghetti squash and zoodles that require extra effort).

HOME CLEANING

I loved the new free & clear line of product from ECOS, including the odor and stain remover that shall be used on the overwhelming amount of cat vomit that happens in this house.

LAUNDRY LOVE

I’m already a superfan of Molly’s Suds, so I’m glad I had an opportunity to get more samples while I was there. I’m excited to try Biokleen’s sport laundry detergent and Ology (Walgreen’s brand) free and clear concentrated detergent too.

See, being a crunchy-granola-flip-flop-wearin’ Whole Foods-shopping reusable-bag-carryin’ hippy isn’t so bad after all. Because I know that I want to be putting better stuff in and on my body for the short time I am here on planet Earth so I can have the best life I possibly can.
