I rarely get a chance to raise money for celiac organizations. I used to do a fun auction around the holidays, and now I typically just donate a portion of the Ceilac and the Beast ad proceeds to the top three celiac organizations. But, that’s not as fun and as FUN-draiser, and I would love to have you guys participate too. Here’s your chance! I’ll be teaming up with the Step Beyond Celiac fundraiser, and you can join my virtual team. I’m running a 5K (haha, just kidding, you know I don’t run), but I am running this fundraiser with the KC5K for Beyond Celiac.

I’ve set my goal at $500, but I’d love to be able to go to Kansas with over $1,000. What do you think, Celiac and the Beast readers – can we do this?
I’ll be presenting during the event, so please come out and join me if you’re in the Kansas City area on Saturday October 14th! Join us at the Community America Ballpark, 1800 Village W. Pkwy, Kansas City, KS, 66111. Everything starts at 8am!

Want to know more about Beyond Celiac, who will be receiving the proceeds from the fundraiser?
Beyond Celiac’s Vision: A world in which people with celiac disease can live healthy lives free from social stigma and fear of gluten exposure – a world Beyond Celiac. Celiac disease is a genetic autoimmune disorder triggered by the protein gluten and affects more than 3 million Americans. A gluten-free diet, the only known treatment for celiac disease, is difficult to manage, often ineffective and does not always stop disease progression. Worse, for many people with celiac disease, even strict adherence may not prevent serious complications: cancer, infertility, neurological problems, osteoporosis, and secondary
autoimmune diseases.
To realize our vision, we need to support new research opportunities. Research is the answer to discovering effective treatments and a cure! New treatments are being explored, thanks to the efforts of dedicated researchers and compassionate clinicians. According to some experts, finding a cure for celiac disease could be the key that unlocks all autoimmune diseases.
In a bold new initiative, Beyond Celiac will help find new treatments – and eventually a cure – by engaging the celiac disease community to join this groundbreaking research effort. We will fill critical knowledge gaps that currently restrain or prevent progress by research scientists, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies. Our KC community will be the catalyst.
Why the Step Beyond Celiac KC5K is so important.
Contributions accelerate Beyond Celiac’s success. The KC5K is a fun walk, run event on October 14th for the entire family to raise funds to support new research investigations and help develop a global patient registry of people diagnosed with celiac disease who want to participate in research studies, including clinical trials.
This is Step Beyond Celiac’s inaugural event and KC is proud to be the premier host city. Beyond Celiac and the KC5K committee invite you to join by walking, running or simply enjoying the festivities at Community America Ballpark – with gluten-free vendors.
