Do you have plans to visit Phoenix soon? I’ve lived here my entire life, although I’ve only been celiac for about a quarter of that! I’ve learned how to navigate the gluten-free Phoenix, AZ scene. I get this question all the time, so here’s one blog post that recaps where to eat GLUTEN FREE in Phoenix, Arcadia, Scottsdale, Mesa, and Tempe, Arizona!
GLUTEN FREE PHOENIX
Fox Restaurant Concepts: Many people ask me about where to eat in Arizona. Besides our dedicated restaurants/bakeries, a great option is looking into a Fox Restaurant Concepts restaurant near you. Fox restaurant concepts is a mecca for gluten free dining with their multiple fresh food concepts and trained servers and chefs.
- True Food – Arcadia/Biltmore
- Zinburger – Arcadia/Biltmore
- Flower Child – Arcadia/Biltmore
The Stand: This taco and burger joint in Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix (36th & Indian School) was started by a couple with celiac disease. While the restaurant isn’t 100% gluten free, the only gluten they have are the burger buns. And yes, you can get a gluten-free bun. I like the veggie street tacos and chicken street tacos with fries – because who doesn’t love a dedicated fryer.
Pita Jungle: This vegan/vegetarian friendly earthy joint has several locations around the Phoenix area, as well as across the country. They have an allergen menu online, but most servers are knowledgeable. I love to get the domaldes and the chicken schwarma pita (without the pita). Check out Pita Jungle in Phoenix.
Beckett’s Table: This fancy-schmancy place is great for special occasions. Gluten-free is notated on the menu. Warning, it’s way harder to do dairy-free or egg-free at this place. Visit: http://beckettstable.com/
Chelsea’s Kitchen: We go here for special occasions, or any time we want the best swordfish tacos around. They make their corn tortillas by hand, and have a dedicated fryer for chips (last time I was there). Check out my review of Chelsea’s here! Don’t miss out on the brussels sprout salad! Check out their sister restaurant, La Grande Orange too!
Jewel’s Bakery and Cafe: If you follow Celiac and the Beast at all, you know about Jewel’s. It’s way too close to my house to not visit there regularly. Jewel’s Bakery & Cafe is THE place to be if you’re gluten-free in Phoenix. They have a revamped menu full of vegan options too! You can also order online through Postmates too.
GLUTEN FREE TEMPE
Red Robin: We have plenty of these chains throughout the state, but Tempe has several. Have additional allergies? Red Robin has an online allergen customizer. Don’t miss the allergy-friendly fries! They are made in their own fryer!
Picazzo’s: This restaurant is mostly gluten-free, serving only gluten-free pasta and bread, but they do offer gluten-containing pizza, however it is made in different places than the gluten-full pizza. It’s been named Best Gluten-Free Restaurants in a state-wide publication several times. Picazzo’s has a handful of locations throughout the state.
GLUTEN FREE SCOTTSDALE
Gluten Free Creations: Gluten Free Creations has two locations in Arizona – one in North Phoenix and one in South Scottsdale (the original location). They serve cafe style items, as well as offering several freezers for take-and-bake or pre-made dessert items.
PF Chang’s: With several locations throughout the state, PF Chang’s offers a gluten-free menu that is chain-wide. They serve their gluten-free items on a special plate so you know that the back-of-the-house understands the order. Pei Wei, their fast-casual sister brand, is also throughout the metro Phoenix area and offer a gluten-free menu.
If you’re outside of the major cities, definitely use the Find Me Gluten Free App to see if there’s anything near you!
I’ll try to keep this updated, as there are so many restaurants in Phoenix. Keep in mind, even if someone has a gluten-free menu, it doesn’t mean they take gluten-free seriously!
This is so awesome. I am actually going to Phoenix next AND staying by the Biltmore. True Food was already on my list but I want to check otu the other places as well
Gotta give some more live to GFC !
*love
This is awesome! We live in Northwest Peoria and have also had awesome experiences and a very well educated staff at Firebirds on 83rd Ave. They have an entire GF menu and the manager is very familiar with cross contamination.
Thanks for sharing. Going to be in Phoenix on Tuesday for 6 days..
Hi, I’m Spanish and this summer we’re going on vacation to Phoniex.
Could you recommend supermarkets where I can buy gluten-free food? Bread, sandwich, biscuits etc.
Thank you
