The Best Gluten-Free Bakeries That Ship

I always search for “gluten free bakeries near me” when I travel. Thankfully, I’ve been able to visit the best gluten-free bakeries on my many adventures across the USA. But everyone always asks me, “but do they ship?” Believe me, I wish that each of these gluten-free bakeries ship – directly into my face. Sadly, it’s really hard to ship gluten-free baked goods. Icing gets smooshed. Cake gets squashed. Cold things arrive hot and hot things arrive cold. Some things need to be shipped with dry ice, and it’s going to cost you rent money to get donuts delivered to your house. Guys, I get it. That’s why I put together a list of the best gluten-free bakeries that do ship across the USA.

Donna Marie’s Gluten Free Bakery in Rochester, NY. She’s got 2 locations and she’s amazing! Cakes, cupcakes, breads, cookies of all kinds. She even sources pastas…like, you can find gf lasagna noodles! But literally the best thing I’ve had is her simple iced sugar cookies (which sell fast so call your order in if possible) closely followed by the even more simple lemon cookies.

  51. Jessica August 17, 2019 at 4:52 am Reply

Also! I almost forgot about BamBam Bakery in Portland, ME. It’s got a super cute shop, with all sorts of mismatched vintagey furniture. It’s recycling conscious and they have great coffee. But for those of us with a mondo sweet tooth, the treats are the reason for life, here. Literally EVERYTHING is gf and none of it sucks. Try the coffee cake first though! And then get a box of their various cookies (pb with chocolate chunks should def make your list) to go bc as a fellow gluteneer, you know it’s a rare day when you have the world of treats at your feet. Also try the fruit bars and cupcakes and pizza if you’re starting to get a sugar brain. Oh and you can buy loaves of bread too!

    Just, go there guys.

I live in Lawrenceville NJ and LOVE Wildflours. I have never had to ship anything but I can tell your their french loaf is so good my non-glueten free friends and family have enjoyed them.

I also love their cheesecakes and German Chocolate cake.

Call them they are sooo helpful.

I’m a big fan of Mason Dixon in Huntsville- have been several times and have ordered from there.
As far as what to order I would recommend- THE BISCUITS!! Both the vegan and regular (buttermilk). They are stellar and worth every penny if you love a good southern biscuit.

Their blueberry muffins- they ship/freeze really well and the blueberries are so abundant and juicy.

The cinnamon rolls are quite good but I usually only get those when I go. They are fine shipped if you have a major craving but not QUITE as good. Unsure how well they would ship outside the southeast.

It you love icing/frosting and super rich sugary desserts you should grab some of their cupcakes. Personally I like cake more than icing so these are a bit TOO sweet and rich for me. But others love them.

Any of their loaves ship fine :). The cinnamon and cranberry will test your self control (in a good way).
    ENJOY!

I’d like to suggest Third Coast Bakery in Traverse City Mi. Discovered them on vacation. Brought a selection of their cookies and donuts back to the B&B. Didn’t get to try many because my non-celiac friends and family plowed through them. Their bread is good, but I order more of their sweets every time they untie me from the mast. I dream of their cookies, donuts, scones and coffee cakes when deprived of them.

Mason Dixon is SOOOO good. Never had anything bad there. But my absolute favorite that they ship are their biscuits. They are flaky and buttery and you’ll never know they are gluten free! If you ever get to go in person, their cinnamon rolls are to die for! They don’t ship them, though.

Happy Mixer is great. My sister used to live nearby so it was wonderful. Someone earlier said the “kiffles”- like pie crust ribbons full of different jams. They are yummy and are gone fast. So are their donuts especially their regular ones with creamy white filling. You have to time it right to get those. Last their lemon pound cake- yum! Lots of good food.

The Happy Mixer in PA is my local Gf bakery and you will NOT be disappointed. They are the closest to traditional bakery baked goods I’ve had in my years of being Celiac. They’ve won top recognition in the state, opened two satellite locations, and are now franchising. We get all family birthday cakes there and I love the donuts, cookies, breads, brownies, muffins, and more. On special occasions, they’ve also done monkey bread, cinnamon rolls, soft pretzels, seasonal pies, and bagels.

I live near Mason Dixon and the fat elvis cupcake is the best in my point of view. I’m usually a vanilla gal but this is the one case I’ll pick choc over vanilla any day. They can make a case of macarons too with a 72hr heads up, just don’t know how it works regarding shipping. Their Garlic & Herb bread is very good but I only like it when it’s extremely fresh to pay $8/loaf and toast it with butter or dip it in a homemade oil/seasoning mix Italian style! [In my experience their breads go bad fast if left out for more than 2 days and I know most GF breads need refrigeration but I feel that theirs lose their yummy texture and dry out quickly that way unless you only want to use it for toast so I’d hold off until you visit in person or if they can ship it frozen and you fresh bake it at home?). Their orange cranberry scones are great and so are the Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits and Buttermilk biscuits (pro-tip on these: if you get more than 4, there is some discount-I think it’s a 6 or 12 pack? Didn’t know this for years bc it’s not advertised until a store employee informed me! Also, set up an account (free/no credit card or any other affiliates) and link it to your email and card of choice because all your expenditures track and per $100 spent, you get $5 off to use at your convenience w/o expiration!] Haven’t had the Cinnamon rolls but it’s what all the locals I’ve met rave about!

I haven’t been yet but there’s a place near or in Knoxville TN called Benefit Your Life Gluten Free Bakery & Cafe @ 10420 Kingston Pike that’s supposed to be good. I am a super sensitive Celiacs and called ahead to ask and they said all their mixes, etc are certified GF or from fresh ingredients apart from one or two products (applesauce and I forgot the other – maybe honey or something) and those couple ingredients are only in select items. If anyone tries, please share and let us know if you have any reactions! 🙂

The chinese buffet in Mechanicsburg has great gluten free options. i like the chicken on a stick as well as the mongolian beef. I also love the bananas with the red syrup that is always near the cold seafood. I sometimes get kicked out because i eat from lunch until the dinner menu comes out which costs more, but if i am already there, they cant do anything. Win.

So if anyone is interested, not alot of gluten in chinese food.

Are you new to gluten free? Maybe you’ve lucked up on a very accommodating Chinese restaurant? Chinese is infamous for being gluten-laden due to soy sauce, so if you’ve found a place with “not a lot of gluten,” bravo.

Adding to a few others’ notes on Flour Craft Bakery in Mill Valley and San Anselmo, CA (both north of San Francisco) – the MV one has longer hours and a few more offerings, otherwise, they’re similar.

When you get their various toasts, (such as walnut butter and marmalade, if I recall correctly), you get TWO big pieces of toast with the toppings.

They now have GL waffles too – takes a while, fyi.

My favorite item is their orange polenta cake with a chocolate ganache glaze. Warm it up ever so slightly – too much and the glaze will melt off. I like their scones – just wish they were less skinny.

My sister adores their focaccia. It’s thinner than most, but very good – a lot of oil in it (which I like). She had me bring it to her in Colorado once. The restaurant next door, Creekside, uses it when you order GF bread.

Finally, they make a couple kinds of GF granola. It’s sold for $9 at several stores nearby, but I try to buy mine their so they get all the profit.
