This is the type of place where you know you can get Kombucha on tap. Where there’s more vegan desserts in the chiller than not. Where the menu says that it’s all gluten-free except for 4 or 5 items (all bread), instead of the other way around. This is The Company Cafe, based in Dallas, TX.
Company Cafe specializes in natural and fresh food. While they don’t have a gluten-free menu, as it states above, most of the items are naturally gluten free or can be modified to be gluten free. It’s pretty awesome to find a restaurant like this.
Their breakfast menu is awesome – offering gluten-free pancakes and french toast bites. They offer gluten-free bagels. They offer a ton of scrambles, and even offer a GF biscuit (that includes dairy, see photo above). Since I already had breakfast (hello hotel room suitcase food), I was more excited to try the lunch menu – full of entrees and salads that I could eat.
I opted for the smokehouse chicken tacos. It came with three corn tortillas, onion, cilantro, cotija cheese (which I opted out of), guac and salsa. It was SO fresh and SO filling and delicious. They have more flavor than traditional street tacos, so fresh that it’s almost like you got them off of a cart. Others ordered pancakes and breakfast items. They even offer gluten-free chicken fried steak at breakfast and at dinner – each served a different way with different sides. It looked so delicious – I wanted to steal some off the plate!
As for the drinks, they offered a wide selection, including kombucha (and including some delicious alcohol-based drinks). As you might remember, I don’t do kombucha because apparently my body is not cool enough to process it. A few people ordered the home-brewed kombucha on tap and really liked it – although a tad sweet. I just wanted coffee. So much coffee (this is the only reason I can travel so much without collapsing). If I would come back, I would definitely do some day drinking here.
Many of their gluten-free items are sourced from Local Oven, and they mention many other local providers – including a Kombucha company. I love a good local-focused restaurant (even though in this case I am not a local myself). I strongly recommend you visit Company Cafe the next time you are in Dallas, TX!
